Chateau de Tigny
Enjoy a relaxing holiday in this 16th Century Bourguignon style Castle with two towers and homely atmosphere is located near the charming historic village of Charlieu. It is surrounded by a moat on three sides with a beautiful pigeonnier entrance.
The most ancient known proprietor of the Chateau was the noble family des Fourniers. Captain-Chatelain of Charlieu was the lord of the manor house in 1528. A few years later, the property was owned by Jean de Foudras who married Claudine des Fourniers. At the end of the 17th century the Chateau became the property of the family Tillard which adopted the name of the Chateau as annexe to their name.
The medieval village of Charlieu and its exceptional heritage is inseparable from that of its Abbey. Founded to 875 by Benedictine monks from Touraine, at the crossroads of two major roads (from Paris to Lyon and the Saone to the Loire). The Abbey Clunisienne has contributed greatly to the development of Charlieu.
In 1827 the industry of silk weaving expanded to Charlieu. A former old mill can be seen at the Chateau. In Charlieu you can stroll between old preserved houses built of stone and timber dating between the 13th and 19th centuries.
